New features for the Asset Inventory Service (AIS) 2.0 introduced in Oct. 2011 parallel the improvements to the Windows Intune online service, released at the same time. The AIS online service, part of the Desktop Optimization Pack which is available only to customers with Software Assurance on their Windows desktop OSs or to Windows Intune subscribers, helps inventory software installed on PCs and mobile devices and can help reconcile Microsoft software inventory data with actual license purchases.
