| Office 365 Chief to Leave Microsoft |

Dave Thompson will be leaving Microsoft and his role as corporate vice president, Business Online Services in 2011, following the release of Office 365. The move creates a further gap in Microsoft's cloud server management team along with the planned departure of Bob Muglia, to whom Thompson reported. Thompson's team develops Microsoft-hosted business services such as Exchange Online and SharePoint Online, which will receive a major update with Office 365 in mid-2011. Thompson has led Microsoft Online since the release of Exchange Server 2007 in 2006. Microsoft has not announced a replacement for Thompson at this time. Since joining Microsoft in 1990, Thompson has managed many areas of Microsoft's server products, including the Windows NT Networking Group, later known as the Distributed Systems group, and was responsible for Active Directory and Windows security infrastructure. He took over Windows Server in 2000, having led development of components within seven different releases of Windows and Windows NT-based OSs. Thompson began managing Exchange Server in 2004. |
