Both the Windows Store and Windows 8 will enter beta in late Feb. 2012, according to a Dec. 2011 announcement by Antoine Leblond, corporate vice president, Windows Web Services. This means that the Windows 8 beta will occur approximately six months after the Windows 8 Developer Preview was released during the Sept. Leblond did not say whether the Feb. 2012 beta will be feature complete (all the features present) or when a release candidate might be expected. Directions on Microsoft still anticipates that Windows 8 will not be generally available until late 2012, but this estimate could change depending on the quality of the beta code. The announcement of the beta is available in the brief video describing the Windows Store available at http://blogs.msdn.com/b/windowsstore/archive/2011/12/06/announcing-the-new-windows-store.aspx. |
