Windows Vista, which became generally available on Jan. 25, 2007, exited the Mainstream support phase and entered the Extended support phase of its product support life cycle on Apr. 10, 2012. Customers still running Windows Vista may want to consider upgrading to Windows 7 at this time. Under Mainstream support, which is the first phase of the product support life cycle, customers using Vista at the currently supported service pack level could receive no-charge support services, including nonsecurity hotfixes and security and nonsecurity updates, as well as paid support.
