Windows Phone 8 was revealed in June 2012 at a daylong Microsoft event. The major upgrade, which should arrive in late 2012 as Windows Phone 7 turns two years old, will give developers a platform which has many common underpinnings with the full Windows OS, potentially building the base of developers and making the platform more viable for enterprise applications and advanced DirectX-based games.
