Microsoft Reader will be the preferred format for Amazon.com's planned electronic-book store. The deal will give Microsoft's eBook format prominent placement with the leading online book vendor. As part of the deal, Microsoft will create a custom version of Reader with built-in links to Amazon's eBook store. Microsoft already has a similar agreement with Amazon's major competitor, Barnesandnoble.com. No date has been set for the opening of Amazon's electronic-book store; Amazon has previously distributed a few electronic books (e.g. Stephen King's Riding the Bullet in Adobe Acrobat format) alongside conventional books. Microsoft's Reader site is www.microsoft.com/reader.
