Microsoft’s three current management products will continue to evolve over the next
several years. Application Center server, Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM), and Systems Management
Server (SMS) will all get minor updates, services packs, and other incremental enhancements for at
least three years. Sometime between 2005 and mid-2007, two new management products, Server Manager
and Client Manager, will appear and encompass the functions of the current management products.
Server Manager will provide the core server management functions provided by all three products
today, and Client Manager will provide the core client device-management functions provided by
SMS and MOM today. However, Microsoft has not provided details about how the transition will
take place
