What's New on the Windows Roadmap (Sidebar)

Changes to the Windows roadmap since our last published version (Mar. 2004) include the following:

  • New product support life-cycle policies mean that Windows XP will be fully supported for at least two years after the release of Windows Longhorn Client, rather than until 2006 as originally planned, and Extended support for Windows 2000 will continue an extra three years, until 2010
  • Windows XP Service Pack (SP) 2 has been delayed to late summer (possibly as late as Sept. 2004) from June 2004
  • A Windows Server 2003 update code-named R2, which delivers new features for Windows Server 2003 SP1, is now planned for 2005
  • The Windows Longhorn Server release is now planned for six to 12 months after Windows Longhorn Client versus the 18-month gap originally anticipated.
