Microsoft divides its business into the following seven areas: Client includes the company's desktop OSs. Information Worker includes Office and other business productivity software and services. Server and Tools includes all Windows server OSs and most server applications (including SQL Server and Exchange Server), server Client Access Licenses, development tools, and corporate services such as consulting and support. Home and Entertainment includes Xbox, consumer hardware and software, and interactive TV platforms. MSN includes all MSN sites and services. Business Solutions includes business management software, such as Great Plains, Navision, and MSCRM; sales and marketing initiatives for small and midsize businesses; and the Microsoft Partner Program. Mobile and Embedded Devices includes Windows CE and the platforms based on it, plus other embedded OSs. For each business area, this chart shows its estimated and actual revenues in FY'05, operating income or loss in FY'05 (Microsoft does not estimate operating income or loss for each business unit), and estimated revenue for FY'06.
All figures in millions of U.S. dollars. *At the beginning of FY'06, Microsoft moved the MapPoint business from Mobile and Embedded to MSN. FY'06 revenue estimates take this move into account, but Microsoft has not yet restated FY'05 revenues accordingly. **Unlike net income, operating income does not include taxes or gains and losses from investments.
