Visual Studio Team System (VSTS) has been delayed until the first quarter of 2006 while the rest of Visual Studio 2005 remains on track for a Nov. 2005 launch, according to a blog posting by Corporate Vice President for Microsoft's Developer Division, S. Somasegar. VSTS is a set of products, including a server and specialized editions of the Visual Studio integrated development environment (IDE), that supports teams of developers with source code control, analysis tools, project management, work item tracking, and application modeling.

Other announcements made by Somasegar in his blog include:

• Release Candidate 1 of Visual Studio 2005, along with Beta 3 of VSTS, will be available via MSDN in Sept. 2005
• A "Go Live" license will allow customers to use Beta 3 of VSTS in production, and technical support will be available for Premier customers who choose to do so
• Customer data stored in Beta 3 of VSTS will migrate in place to the final version when it is available.
