The new WebsiteSpark program offers free software licenses and other benefits to selected small companies doing Web development and design. The program, launched Sept. 2009, substantially expands Microsoft's initiatives to attract new developers and designers to its Web platform. WebsiteSpark offers companies with up to 10 employees benefits that include technical support for two incidents, training, and several free licenses to Windows Web Server (an OS edition for Web sites), SQL Server Web Edition, Visual Studio, and the Expression designer tools. Participants can remain in the program up to three years and must use the licensed software to build a public Web site within six months of entering the program. Separately, Microsoft updated its Web Platform Installer and Web Application Gallery, which, like WebsiteSpark, help Windows Web developers get started and promote their applications. WebsiteSpark benefits, requirements, and other Web platform information can be found via www.microsoft.com/web. The Web Platform Installer and Application Gallery were described in more detail in "Portal Offers Web Platform, Applications" on page 23 of the May 2009 Update.
