After filtering through the organization for some time, Microsoft’s latest companywide restructuring can now be seen for the substantial change that it is. A new U.S. subsidiary was formed, certain marketing responsibilities were transferred to a newly created corporatewide Marketing Division, a new Enterprise and Partner Group was formed to sharpen Microsoft’s focus on large enterprises, and several major changes were made within the existing product groups themselves. Last month we provided the big-picture overview of the reorganization; this month we explore the details.

As part of the reorganization, 40 individuals throughout the company were promoted to the title of vice president (VP). Microsoft now has over 100 people with a title of VP or above, compared to approximately 60 such individuals at the start of the calendar year.
