Semi-Annual Channel versions of Windows Server are no longer supported or available.
- Windows Server 1903, the latest SAC version of Windows Server, is generally available.
- Improvements focus on enhancements to container-based application scenarios, particularly when used with Kubernetes orchestration software.
- LTSC versions of Windows Server remain the recommended option for traditional infrastructure roles and hosting on-premises enterprise software.
- Customers deploying Windows Server 1903 will need to make a one-time change to SCCM and WSUS to deploy future updates to the OS.
Windows Server 1903, the latest Semi-Annual Channel (SAC) version of Windows Server, became available on May 21, 2019. Windows Server 1903 contains enhancements to Windows Server containers that improve interoperation with Kubernetes orchestration software and bring Windows Server–based containers closer to parity with Linux-based containers. However, while Microsoft continues to invest in Windows Server–based containers, most development in container-based applications remains focused on Linux-based containers and new functionality is likely to arrive there first.
