Other Improvements: Application Installation

Windows 2000 Professional includes a new service for installing and managing applications, called the Windows Installer (formerly the Microsoft Installer, code-named Darwin). The Windows Installer performs many services for application installation on both laptops and desktops, including the following: restoring original machine state upon installation failure, preventing interapplication conflicts ("DLL Hell"), and installing and upgrading applications automatically when an administrator "advertises" them on the network. For a full account of the Windows Installer, see the Mar.
