In Brief: Windows 2000 SP1 is expected in June 2000

• Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1) is currently scheduled for release in late June. Some have suggested that Microsoft is accelerating SP1 because some customers intend to wait to migrate to Windows 2000 until the first SP is released. However, SP1 will be almost exactly on the six-month release pattern established for Windows NT 4.0 service packs in the last 18 months. Service packs are now produced by Microsoft’s Sustained Engineering Group, which began work on Windows 2000 SP1 on December 15, the day Windows 2000 code was released to manufacturing.
