In Brief: Insurance company balks at legal payouts

Microsoft’s general liability insurer is balking at paying the company’s legal fees for more than 135 class-action suits. Zurich American Insurance Inc. says its coverage for US$4 million covers Microsoft's legal obligations for bodily injury, property damage, and personal injury, but not for "claims arising out of antitrust violations and other anticompetitive activities.'' Since Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson issued his Findings of Fact in the Microsoft antitrust trial last fall, class-action lawsuits have been filed in 38 states.
