In Brief: Microsoft gives all employees more stock options

Microsoft has given all its employees a one-time stock option grant in an effort to shore up employee morale. Everyone who works for Microsoft will get a grant equal in size to the option package each received at his or her annual review in July 1999 (or on hiring for new hires). The strike price for the new options is the Monday, April 24 market closing price of $66.63, the stock’s lowest level in almost a year and a half. The move will have the most significant effect on newer employees, many of whom have existing options priced at levels higher than the current trading price.
