In Brief: New tool helps secure Windows 2000 Web servers

A new tool helps webmasters secure Windows 2000–based Web servers running Internet Information Services 5.0 (IIS 5). The tool, called the "Windows 2000 Internet Server Security Configuration Tool," but also known as the "IIS 5.0 Configuration Tool," tightens Web server security by disabling ports associated with unused services, such as FTP. The tool consists of a DHTML-based front end for specifying security preferences and a Windows Scripting Host deployment engine that applies resulting configuration parameters to a particular Web server.
