In Brief: IE 5 for Macintosh ships

• Internet Explorer (IE) 5.0 for the Macintosh shipped at the end of March, a year after the Windows version. The new version has a faster rendering engine, dubbed Tasman, which Microsoft claims provides a 50% increase in performance over IE 4.5 and is fully compliant with the HTML 4 and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) 1 Web standards. New features include an "Auction Manager," a client-side console for tracking the progress of bids and sales in online auctions, and an "Internet Scrapbook," which lets users store and organize Web pages.
