Microsoft Faces Threat of Internet Access Via Game Consoles

To live up to its slogan of software services "anytime, anywhere, on any device," Microsoft needs a presence on electronic game consoles. Sega’s recently released Dreamcast game console and rival consoles on the horizon from Nintendo and Sony have the potential to be more than mere video game machines; they enable access to the Web and Internet services. Millions of these devices will be sold in the next few years, creating huge Internet communities of console game players.
