In Brief: New E-Business Consortium

A new consortium will encourage interoperability among business-to-business (B2B) technologies. Cofounded by Computer Associates, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, SAP, and about 25 other companies, the Business Internet Consortium (BIC) is the latest in a long line of industry bodies, including BizTalk (originated by Microsoft), CommerceNet, Oasis (which enjoys strong support from IBM, Novell, Oracle, and Sun) and RosettaNet, formed to propose common B2B standards, particularly standards related to the eXtensible Markup Language (XML).
