Azure SQL Database Update Moves to SQL Server 2014

An update to Azure SQL Database, a relational database service hosted in Microsoft's data centers, was made generally available in Jan. 2015 after a short preview. The update converts the underlying engine to SQL Server 2014, which improves compatibility and performance as compared to the previous iterations. Application compatibility improves with support for most T-SQL commands and the .NET Common Language Runtime (CLR), removing previous barriers for migrating some database applications from SQL Server to Azure SQL.
