Base CAL

For most server-based products licensed with two or more types of CALs (Client Access Licenses), the base CAL is a generic term used to describe the CAL type that covers access to primary server functions and is always required. (The exception is Dynamics 365 On-premises, which is divided into application modules, each with its own CAL.)

The base CAL for Exchange Server, Skype for Business Server, and SharePoint Server is called a Standard CAL.

The base CAL for Windows Server is simply called the Windows Server CAL.
