Azure Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is an online service designed to minimize the possibility that user accounts setup to secure enterprise applications and services are compromised through the loss of user credentials (username and password) alone. Sometimes called a form of “two step verification” or “two factor authentication,” the most common Azure MFA scenarios leverage a user’s mobile phone as the second factor/step.
