SQL Server 2016 Receives Second Service Pack

SQL Server 2016 SP2 improves performance, compatibility, and diagnostics and includes fixes for bugs found since the release of SP1. The update, released on Apr. 24, 2018, contains all fixes released through cumulative update (CU) 8, and it must be installed by July 9, 2019, to continue receiving support. Performance updates focus on database backup speeds and compression to help large and small database backups across a range of hardware and to improve the efficiency of change tracking and cleanup processes that previously caused deadlocks.
