Windows Client Timeline

Windows 8.1 left Mainstream support in Jan. 2018 and will leave Extended support in Jan. 2023. It will not be updated to support new processors and system-on-a-chip (SoC) silicon, commonly used in the latest devices. Accordingly, organizations should not consider migrating from Windows 7 SP1 to Windows 8.1 as a viable option. Despite the five years of Extended support remaining for Windows 8.1, customers should be planning to migrate to Windows 10.
