Major changes in Microsoft’s systems management, security, and identity management roadmap since the Mar. 2010 Enterprise Software Roadmap include the following:

  • A restricted set of beta testers received a chance to evaluate a new online PC management service, Windows Intune, which allows small and midsize organizations to manage PCs using online services hosted in Microsoft data centers.
  • Service Manager 2010, Microsoft’s entry into the help desk and trouble ticketing arena, was released in Apr. 2010.
  • Data Protection Manager 2010 arrived with new forms of protection for virtual machines, more flexible restore options, and backup to the cloud.
  • System Center Essentials 2010 was released with virtual machine management, improvements to other systems management features, and increased limits on the number of computers being managed.
  • A beta of Configuration Manager 2007 R3 allows organizations to deploy, monitor, and enforce PC power settings.
