Analyst ReportSecurity Assessment Tool Updated
A Microsoft tool that helps small to midsize businesses conduct an IT infrastructure risk assessment without outside help has been updated. The free Security Assessment Tool asks a series of questions that one or two members of an organization’s IT staff could complete in a few hours or less, and outputs reports which could serve as a starting point for organizations when planning IT changes or engaging a third-party provider to improve security. However, the tool focuses on broad potential risks and good IT practices rather than providing in-depth assessments of particular technologies or configurations.
Time to Do a New Risk Assessment?
A risk assessment typically identifies the processes, resources, and technologies that an organization uses to implement security and privacy. The constant development of new threats suggests that organizations should complete new assessments periodically, and the Security Assessment Tool, designed for organizations with 50 to 1,500 computers, provides a way to do that.
