Azure Dev CLI is a command-line interface (CLI) tool, in preview, that simplifies developer workflows for Azure-hosted applications. The tool works with templates that contain Bicep language code and application code to generate code projects and the Azure resources they require.

The interactions labeled in the diagram (which do not need to be performed in this sequence) refer to the following:

1 The Visual Studio (VS) and VS Code IDEs support Azure Dev CLI integration that allows developers to use the tool’s functionality without a command-line terminal. (VS and VS Code are not required by Azure Dev CLI.)

2 Azure Dev CLI commands work with templates (samples or custom) that contain Bicep code (to provision Azure resources) and the solution’s application code.

3 Azure Dev CLI can create a GitHub repository and populate it with the application code from the template. (GitHub is not required by Azure Dev CLI.)

4 Azure Dev CLI uses the Bicep code in the template to provision Azure resources.
