Analyst ReportPrepare for Higher Costs for Teams Town Halls
- Customers using Teams Premium to host large Town Halls will have to pay more due to Apr. 2026 licensing changes.
- The change impacts only customers who hold Town Halls with over 3,000 attendees, like company all-hands meetings.
- Previously, these large events had no extra costs beyond Teams Premium, but now they require expensive Attendee Pack add-ons.
- The new costs won’t come into effect until preexisting Teams Premium licenses renew, giving customers breathing room to adjust.
Teams licensing changes that took effect Apr. 1, 2026, generally benefited Teams users, moving features for advanced webinars and town halls into the Teams Enterprise User Subscription License (User SL) included in most Microsoft 365 suites. However, Microsoft also ended years-old “temporary” increases in attendee limits for Teams town halls (broadcast events designed to reach larger audiences than conventional Teams meetings). New Attendee Capacity Pack add-ons enable larger events, but costs can run well over US$10,000 per organizer per month depending on event size. Customers who host large events like company meetings have until their existing Teams Premium User SLs reach end-of-term to adjust to the new cost model.
