The last major version of Dynamics CRM Online became generally available on Dec. 1, 2015. Current and upcoming versions of the online service are shown above. The Dynamics CRM team plans to deliver new features at least twice a year for CRM Online customers, usually in May and December updates, while on-premises customers should see similar enhancements and fixes in major version releases and service packs, once a year, usually in December.

CRM Online uses a customer-staged update process that does not require customers to immediately accept new updates to the service, except minor releases such as 7.1.1. Customers can elect to remain on their current CRM Online version, as long as the version is no more than two versions behind the most current major version. For example, the most current major version is 8.0, allowing customers to reside on version 7.0, 7.1, or 8.0. According to Microsoft, customers currently on CRM Online version 6.1 (CRM Online Spring ´14) will be updated to either CRM Online version 7.0, 7.1, or 8.0 by Mar. 2016. When 8.1 is released in the middle of 2016, customers on CRM Online version 7.0 will be required to upgrade to version 7.1 or 8.0.
