Forefront products will receive updates in 2009 and 2010. A licensing bundle, Forefront Protection Suite, previously code-named Stirling, will integrate Forefront Endpoint Protection, Forefront Protection for Exchange Server, Forefront Protection for SharePoint, and the Threat Management Gateway, providing a unified console and reporting and analysis components through the Forefront Protection Manager. Forefront products will continue to be available separately. Forefront updates were planned for the first half of 2009, but in Apr. 2009 Microsoft announced that they will now be released in the late 2009 and the first half of 2010.

Before then, Microsoft will have delivered service packs for most Forefront-branded products to enable them to run on Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2; some, but not all, of the products have that support today. The Intelligent Application Gateway (IAG) software for secure network access over HTTP will be updated in the second half of 2009, and the name will be changed to Forefront Unified Access Gateway (UAG). The extent to which UAG will be integrated with Forefront Protection Manager has not been decided.
