SharePoint Online capabilities depend on the user’s subscription plan. This illustration summarizes the rights in two SharePoint Online plans that are also incorporated into other Office 365 plans (which are not shown here).

SharePoint Online Plan 1 delivers most of SharePoint’s features for collaboration and search. It offers per-user file storage and collaboration sites (a feature also called OneDrive for Business, formerly SkyDrive Pro) and group collaboration sites, although it does not include Office Online create and edit rights. Plan 1 incorporates SharePoint’s native social networking and discussion component, but not Yammer, which Microsoft now recommends for social networking. Plan 1 includes components for records management, eDiscovery, and other compliance tasks, and SharePoint’s interfaces for administration, customization, and development, including the Access Services component for hosting Web-based database applications built with the Access client. While Plan 1 does not include Yammer or Office Online create and edit rights, customers can purchase rights for those with Plan 1 in other licensing plans, such as Office 365 E1, which also includes Exchange Online, Lync Online, and other services.
