The GitHub developer service is an application life-cycle environment with developer productivity tools and AI technologies that target all solution types, including large, private enterprise projects.

Product: GitHub

Licensing: GitHub Licensing and GitHub Copilot Licensing

Near-Term Roadmap (2026-2027)

Most GitHub innovations are focused on GitHub Copilot and leveraging AI in development scenarios, but recent organizational changes in GitHub could bring deeper change to the offering.

GitHub Copilot New Pricing

Additional fees for actions performed by GitHub Copilot are charged using pay as you go (PAYG) units called GitHub AI Credits as of June 2026. They replace earlier units called premium request units (PRUs).

As the previous PRU system transitions to the GitHub AI Credit system (June-Sept. 2026), existing customers receive extra GitHub AI Credits: each GitHub Copilot Business license receives 3,000 per month, and each GitHub Copilot Enterprise license receives 7,000 per month.
