Power Platform is a marketing umbrella brand encompassing several services, including Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio, Power Pages, Power BI, Dataverse, and AI Builder. Each service is licensed separately, but other licenses such as Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365 provide limited rights to use them, and each service provides some rights to use the other services.
These services enable smaller divisions to create custom line-of-business automation. Power Automate has similarities to other process automation tools such as UIPath and If This Then That (IFTTT), which also allow novice users to connect and automate services more easily, but it is more closely integrated into Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365.
However, these services bring potential risks. Customers with centralized IT operations may find themselves responsible for maintenance of applications developed for local use within a division, and licensing costs can multiply quickly as Power Apps and Power Automate gain traction within an organization.
