This chapter covers client and server applications produced by Microsoft’s Information Worker business unit and aimed at business PC users (“information workers”). It includes the Office Suite, Project and Project Server, SharePoint Portal Server, and others. For SQL Server, Exchange, Live Communications Server, and other server applications not listed here, see the “Server Platforms” chapter. For Windows SharePoint Services, Windows Rights Management, and other Windows feature packs intended for business users, see the “Windows” chapter.

No plans for future releases have been announced for Information Worker products, with the exception of the Office suite. The next major release of the suite, Office 12, will follow the appearance of Windows Longhorn, which is due in late 2005 or early 2006.

(For a graphical overview of recent and upcoming Office Suite, FrontPage, and Visio releases, see the illustration “Client Applications Overview“.)
