Charts & IllustrationsExamples of Point Values
A specific point value is associated with each type of license as well as for Software Assurance (SA) coverage for that license. Points are important because one of the ways volume discount levels are determined in the Select Plus and Select “classic” programs is by the accumulation of points. The chart below lists point values for a few popular products. As a general rule, the point value of one year of SA is half the point value of the underlying license.
Customers accrue points whenever they purchase new licenses on their own, purchase new licenses with SA attached, extend (renew) preexisting SA coverage, or add SA coverage to a Windows OS license acquired with OEM hardware (a special case option that must be transacted within 90 days of PC purchase). Points associated with multiyear SA purchase commitments are credited upfront (at time of initial purchase) rather than spread across the SA term. In Select Plus, customers receive credit for a full three years’ worth of points for SA terms between 25 and 36 months.
