Software Inventory Logging (SIL) gathers a range of information from virtualization hosts and virtual machines. Most of the information is intended to assist with the licensing of Windows Server and System Center, but information provided could also be useful to understanding SQL Server licensing requirements. Because SIL tracks data over time, reported on a monthly basis, results are returned in a format that could prove useful in planning license renewals or in license audit defense.

Reported Information Description
Summaries  
Total Windows Server installations The total number of Windows Server installations discovered.
Count of SQL Server installations over time The total number of SQL Server installations discovered.
Information from hosts and VMs  
Fully qualified domain name The DNS name of the host or VM being surveyed.
Identifying GUIDs Unique identifiers, including SMBIOS GUID, from the host or VM being surveyed.
