  • Customizing Azure governance policies used with the free Azure Policy service is an essential but difficult task.
  • A new open-source Azure policy GitHub repository—with contributions from Microsoft and the community—supplements the policies included with Azure and simplifies governance.

Azure Policy, a free service critical for deployment governance, helps organizations set and maintain standards for how Azure services are used within a tenancy. The service operates using policies that can enforce rules as deployment actions are performed, such as by denying or modifying the actions. It can also modify existing resources that are not compliant. Policies can provide governance by, for example, enforcing the types of VMs that can be deployed, resource naming conventions, and security settings.

New Repo Provides Hundreds of Policies

Azure provides built-in policies for common Azure deployment governance requirements. Custom policies for more specific requirements can be defined by organizations.
