The next major update to the Microsoft Online Services, expected in mid-2011 with the release of Office 365, will update Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Lync Online to the 2010 versions of each server application and begin to provide access to Office 2010 using monthly subscriptions as well. At the same time as Office 365 appears, Microsoft will launch a major update to the Microsoft Online management platform to simplify system setup and user provisioning for large organizations (See the illustration “Microsoft Online Services: A Possible Roadmap“.) Apart from Office 365, Microsoft plans a hosted desktop management service and a new version of Dynamics CRM Online.

Office 365 is an upcoming set of service plans that combines the next versions of the multitenant Standard services (such as Exchange Online Standard) with subscription licenses to the Office desktop software suite.
