  • Office 365 and Intune MDM can coexist, and doing so requires minimal work.
  • The licenses assigned to each user determine which management service is used for each user.
  • Any third-party MDM service still requires additional work to configure and cannot use the same configuration approach as Intune.

Organizations that have mixed deployments of Office 365 and Intune (or Enterprise Mobility + Security [EMS]) can automatically use the mobile device management (MDM) services of Office 365 and Intune concurrently. Some steps are required in order to ensure the correct service will be offered to users.

Office 365 and Intune MDM

Intune provides Microsoft-hosted MDM services for use with devices running Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows 10 OSs. Intune performs device management, application management, and conditional access management for these devices, and it can integrate with all of the other EMS services (as well as Office 365).

Commercial Office 365 subscriptions include an MDM service based on Intune, which offers a narrow subset of Intune’s device management technology, functionality that is primarily intended to help keep Office 365 content secure on devices.
