  • Office 365 Business plans are lower-price plans suitable for small businesses.
  • They lack security and eDiscovery features that are only available on Enterprise plans.
  • Licensing and migration limitations make them unsuitable for most hybrid scenarios and pilot programs.

Office 365 Business plans deliver Microsoft-hosted services such as Exchange Online e-mail and on-premises software such as the Office desktop suite under a Per-User subscription license. The plans include the following:

  • Office 365 Business Essentials, which offers Office 365 hosted services and Web-based Office tools, but not the Office desktop software
  • Office 365 Business, which provides desktop Office suite applications but no hosted services
  • Office 365 Business Premium, which offers desktop Office applications and Office 365 hosted services.

These plans are each limited to 300 users per organization. They offer features that are roughly analogous to lower-tier Office 365 Enterprise plans, but the Business plans are missing some enterprise-level features. (See the chart “Office 365 Business Plans“.)
