Project for the Web is a recently added Microsoft-hosted service for informal project managers.
It is intended for informal project managers and offers a shorter learning curve than more formal tools like Project Professional.
The service is Microsoft’s focus for most project management needs and has seen regular enhancements since it became available.
However, Project for the Web is not a functional replacement for Project Online and may not serve advanced project management needs.

Project for the Web is a hosted offering in Office 365 that provides Web-based project management capabilities and is the key focus of Microsoft’s development efforts in this space. It offers a simplified interface designed for small to medium-sized projects and includes integrations with Teams and Power BI. Project for the Web competes with general project tracking solutions like Trello and SmartSheet, as compared to high-end project management tools like Project Online and Primavera. Project for the Web is unlikely to reach feature parity with Project Online, and there are no import tools to bring Project Online data into the service.
