Teams Live Events Stay Alive

Teams live events, originally planned for retirement on Sept. 30, 2024, in favor of Teams town halls, will instead remain supported by Microsoft for the foreseeable future, giving customers more time to migrate. Both live events and town halls are broadcast-based Teams events for large audiences of 10,000 viewers or more. With this announcement, customers can continue to schedule and conduct both live events and town halls from within Teams and can schedule live events past the original retirement date of Sept. 30, 2024. However, new features will be developed only for town halls. Although no reason was given, the extension may be due to town halls not yet being available for government clouds or providing all features present in live events. However, even in their current form, town halls offer features for audience and presentation management not available in live events, with additional capabilities for Teams Premium licensees.
