Analyst ReportTeams Split from Office Suites in Europe
- Teams is now sold separately in the European Economic Area and Switzerland with new EEA Microsoft 365 and Office 365 suites “without Teams.”
- The change is effectively a price rise for customers within the region who need both Teams and a Microsoft 365 or Office 365 suite.
- Existing customers are not affected unless material changes are made to their subscriptions.
New Microsoft 365 Enterprise and Office 365 Enterprise online services suites that do not include Teams were introduced for the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland. Microsoft’s Teams offers chat and video conferencing and is Microsoft’s primary collaboration platform. In the EEA and Switzerland, Teams has been disaggregated from most Microsoft 365 and Office 365 suites and will be sold separately. The gesture is intended to address competition concerns of the European Commission in the market for communication and collaboration products such as Slack, Teams, and Zoom. The likely result is that many “net new” customers within the region will have to buy two SKUs and pay 5% to 8% more to get Teams together with Microsoft 365 E3 and E5 suites.
