Update: Restricted SharePoint Search (RSS) in SharePoint Online will retire by Jan. 31, 2027, and new enablements blocked as of July 31, 2026. Organizations must transition to Restricted Content Discovery (RCD) in SharePoint Advanced Management to manage content discoverability. There is no migration path.

Site Sprawl is the excessive or unmanaged creation of sites in SharePoint, often exacerbated by self-service site creation or Microsoft Teams.
Oversharing is granting users and groups excessive permissions to content in SharePoint which can expose sensitive information.
