  • Windows 10 version 1809, also called the October 2018 Update, became generally available on Oct. 2, 2018.
  • Unlike previous versions of Windows 10, version 1809 will receive 30 months of support from the date of general availability.
  • There are changes to a variety of features, only some of which will interest enterprises.

Windows 10 version 1809 offers a few benefits for enterprises, including features that can ease migrations from Windows 7, assist with upgrades and new deployments, and deliver more granular security controls. It also introduces a 30-month life cycle that provides a longer support period than previous versions.

Servicing Life Cycle Change

Under the latest changes to the Windows 10 Servicing and Support Policy, Windows 10 version 1809 will be supported for 30 months, as will future versions that reach the Semi-Annual Channel in September and October.

By comparison, future March and April versions of Windows 10, such as Windows 10 version 1903, will be supported for only 18 months. Therefore, organizations might want to focus on versions with longer support periods, such as Windows 10 version 1809.
