The Visio Services feature of SharePoint Online, also called Visio Web Access, will shut down on Sept. 30, 2018, and be replaced by Visio Online, which is shown in the accompanying screen shot. Organizations will need to migrate some files and any custom solutions that embed Visio diagrams in SharePoint Online sites, which could require some work by administrators and developers.

Visio is Microsoft’s line of software and services for creating business and technical diagrams, such as flowcharts and network diagrams. Visio Services enables SharePoint users to view Visio diagrams without the Visio client software installed locally. Compared to Visio Services, Visio Online supports more features of the Visio desktop application, including data refresh, commenting, and text search. It also works with newer browsers including Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari.

However, Visio Online does not support all file formats used by Visio Online, and it uses different APIs and Web Parts, so some files and some customized SharePoint site features that work with Visio Services will need to be migrated to work with Visio Online.
