It enables organizations to deploy and scale applications without managing the underlying infrastructure, while it supports the growing use of AI by hosting the business applications and services that connect to AI capabilities such as Azure OpenAI, Foundry, and machine learning models.

Azure App Service remains Microsoft’s “default PaaS” for production Web apps, APIs, and AI-connected business services. Customers should expect emphasis on improving underlying infrastructure, managed isolation, deployment automation, runtime currency, and AI-enablement through APIs/MCP (Model Context Protocol) rather than a reinvention of the platform.
App Service remains a practical enterprise platform, helping it retain enterprise workloads that don’t justify Kubernetes. However, it’s crowded by Container Apps, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Functions, and Fabric app back ends, so organizations should develop guidance for workload placement to avoid fragmented environments and duplicate spend.
