Azure Event Grid is a cloud message broker service. It routes messages (also called events) between components of an Azure solution including Azure services and third-party applications. It supports various messaging patterns (such as publish-subscribe and request-reply), messaging reliability levels, and protocols, and is integrated with most Azure services. The broad reach of Event Grid makes it a natural choice as a messaging backbone for Azure systems.

Near Term (2025–2026)

Azure Event Grid has steadily increased its reach—the number of different types of messaging endpoints it can connect—over the last two years. The service has also expanded options for more secure, reliable, and scalable messaging. Both trends appear set to continue. Some capabilities rolling out or in preview include the following:
